Round 2 of the Suzuki Series in New Zealand saw the Carl Cox Motorsport pairing of Tim Reeves (UK) and passenger Mark Wilkes (UK) deliver some of the best action the spectators could hope for as they lined up for their first time at the 3.03 KM Manfeild Raceway .
The circuit had received some new seal only a few day before, and everyone was anticipating some quick lap times from all classes racing- but with the weather forecast looking like rain on both the qualifying and race sessions the teams had wet tyres on standby...fortunately the sun broke through shortly after the meeting got under way and stayed for the duration :)
Sidecar qualifying went well for the Coxy sidecar, with Tim/Mark piloting the Kawasaki LCR to pole position for the upcoming 2 races, and also running 4 seconds UNDER the official lap record on his 4th lap for the day!
Race 1: Several of the local teams got away to fantastic starts off the line and lead into the first corner, but the LCR wound its way through to the front of the bunch a few laps in- and managed to take line honours and also the new official lap record with a 1:08.958, FOUR seconds off the previous record.
Race 2 : The spectators were on the edge of their seats when a slight slip had Tim/Mark edged forward while on the grid, and gained a 20 second penalty! The leading local teams of Lovell/Bryan, Unsworth/Dawes and Taylor/Hartnell lead into the early stages of the short 8 lap session and everyone on the sidelines were cheering for their favorite teams with some close battles during the first laps!
The lads on the Kawasaki def had it's work cut out - finally squeezing through to the front slot and then after seeing the "20Sec Penalty" board the boys really had to put the hammer down... all the crews were huddled around the start/finish line to watch the clock as they crossed the line 23.273 seconds ahead of Lovell/Bryan to get the win.
This has been an amazing few days of racing in the southern parts of the world- Carl Cox Motorsport and Tim Reeves Racing currently lead the series by 14 points heading into the 3rd and final round to be held on the famous Cemetery Circuit ROAD RACE in Wanganui on BOXING DAY, Dec 26.
Tim and Mark have never ridden this particular road circuit, and the locals will have the advantage with track knowledge, the word on the street is that we're looking at a very exciting conclusion to the series!
Stay tuned to our facebook page for updates on the day, and don't forget to check out TT Kiwis on youtube for onboard video of all the action :)
We'd like to also wish a very merry Christmas to all those that support us with all aspects of Carl's teams, 2016 is nearly upon us and it's looking to be a massive year for all things motorsport!
Happy holidays all :)
