It's been an incredible weekend here at Mallala Motorsport Park for the Australian Historic Championship, after Dean and the crew's great results through qualifying, yesterday's 2 x Period 4 Unlimited and the first two Period 6 Unlimited races of the meeting with a 1st place and two 2nd's in Period 4, and a 2nd followed by a 1st in Period 6- the team headed into todays races in good spirits!
The first race for this morning was a good clean run for the boys on the big Suzuki, with Dean securing a win with around a 6 second margin at the chequered flag:)
Race two for us today was on the Honda CR750 in the P4 Unlimited class- Dean had a slower start off the line and was 4th into turn 1, but by the end of the first lap he had moved to the front of the pack, while Simon Cook and Dave Johnston diced it up for the next two positions...Simon moved up from second to sneak past Dean over the line when the CR slipped a gear! It was a very exciting way to decide the P4 Unlimited National title with Dean & Don's efforts securing them 2ND overall for the championship!
Our final race for the meeting was again on the P6 Unlimited GSXR1100, and Dean was on a mission right from the green flag! The track had suffered an oil spill and was incredibly slippery for this run, but Dean managed to pull away from the pack to cross the line nearly the full length of the final straight ahead of the 2nd place machine.
After an outstanding weekend for everyone that attended the meeting we're very proud to congratulate Dean/Don and the team on 2ND in their P4 championship class and securing the win for Carl Cox Motorsport with the Period 6 class National title, along with establishing the lap record for the first time the P6 Unlimited class has been run at this circuit, with a 1:14.397.
We'd like to say a big thank you to all those that have contributed with their time, skills and support for all of our meetings this season across Australia, now it's time to get ready for Dean, Don, Gav and the crew to put the GSXR through it's paces at the Shorai Batteries International Motorcycle ClassicInternational Motorcycle Classic against the top Kiwi AND Australian classic machinery in New Zealand at Hampton Downs 24-26th of October!
