Taupo, 22nd/23rd March 2014

Quick update from this weekend's round:)

This has been a full on weekend for us competing in the sidecar racing team at the Taupo Motorsport Park, with a mixed result in our garage of "double thumbs up" and "we wished that had gone a bit differently"...

Practise/qualifying went well as we trialled a completely different engine, and it was feeling very strong putting us in position #2 on the grid for the following 3 races over the weekend.

Race one followed Sat afternoon but a weak link in the otherwise quick motor had decided that it had had enough, causing us to finish the Sat session(and evening) with all hands to try and sort the problem.

Sun Morning saw us back on track with a solid start in race 2- but due to an unfortunate collision on turn one off the line we ended up rejoining the race in last place after pushing the bike out of the dirt! On the 8 lap race we managed to reclaim position to finish 3rd.

Race 3- After 4 of the 8 laps and holding 2nd position the race was red-flagged due to one of the competitors blowing an engine, a restart was ordered with a 4 lap sprint. As we joined the grid we realised the clutch had had enough so our start was slower than we hoped for, but after an"edge of your seat" final lap with Spike/Astrid we crossed the line in 2nd place .5 of a second behind the series leader- and we were then told that we had managed to set a  very fast new lap record by a good margin of 1:36.1! One of the most exciting races of the season for both us and the spectators.

The final round of the championship heads to Manfield next weekend, and we reckon its going to be another weekend of some outstanding sidecar racing as several teams are in good placement for the final points of the year- Further pics  and video from this weekend to follow once we unpack the trailer and get ready for a massive weekend of 5 races with lots of points on offer...

A massive thanks to all those that were competing today and those sponsors and public who attended to support us for these few days, and one of the most nail biting finishes we've seen this season!Bring on Manfield and we'll see you there:)
